More Church Marketing That Doesn't Suck.

Here's an ad for a small seed church near my home. They held services in the gym of an elementary school. Given that basketball's close to a religion around here, the concept seemed like a no-brainer.

The art director was Stan Elder. He's a freelancer in Raleigh. Call him.

Take A Seat.

HEADLINE: Once they've climbed the ladder, they'll need a place to sit.

The client was Carolina Business Furniture.

It was done for Broach Kinley, an agency in Greensboro. Todd Kinley, the creative director, is no longer there. He's got his own place called Crobar Creative. Good guy, does good work.

Somebody called me last week with some work, said they'd been to my site, and commented on this ad. Looked at it again and decided I liked it, so I threw it up on here.

Like the juxtaposition of the classy look and slightly smart-ass headline. And I really dig the fact that there's no copy.

"Everything We Ever Dreamed Of Is In That Gas Tank."

Tempest Cycles is a group of guys down in Florida making custom choppers. They do nice work and have come up with some really amazing bikes.

This is part of an ongoing campaign I've been working on for Gardner Roberts Adwerks. AD: Tomas Gardner.

By the way, the title of this entry is a line from "Easy Rider." Dig.

The Campaign Sunk, Too.

The CSS Neuse is a Conderate ironclad ship that was sunk by its own crew in Kinston, North Carolina, during the Civil War. The thing sat submerged and stuck in the mud for almost 100 years before what was left of it was hauled ashore (hence the "rise again") to rot even more before being preserved. By that time, it was a picked-over, raggedy mess.

You can go see what's left of it. And you should--it's very cool. I wanted to help draw some attention to it with a poster campaign. We came up with some ideas, but never could get anything to happen with the folks at the museum. Here's one of the ideas. Art director: Tomas Gardner.

By the way, some Kinston locals are working to construct a life-size replica of the CSS Neuse.

Career Goal: Headline About Vomit.

Always wanted to put "vomit" in a headline. Guess I can check that one off my list.

This was done for an agency in Durham called Rella:Cowan. Good people.

Church Marketing Doesn't Have To Suck.

A friend, Jim Briggs, is leading a Bible study at his church. He and I cooked this up. Response has been great--lots of guys have signed up.

Must've been the poster.

Keep 'Em Flying!

This is part of an ad campaign for Southeast Aerospace. They sell, repair and install avionics. This was done with art director Tomas Gardner of Gardner Roberts Adwerks.

The copy goes like this:
At Southeast Aerospace, our technical expertise, parts resources, repair capabilities and fast, accurate respose to customer needs have made us a premier source of avionics. Most important, it's helped to keep a lot of planes in the air.

Close, But No Cigar. A Nice Note, Though.

Oink Ink Radio is an audio production house in New York with an amazing client roster. Every year, they have a Dead Radio Contest--this is their ninth. You send in unproduced radio scripts (the ones the clients rejected), they pick a favorite and fly you in to produce it. Pretty cool, huh?

Well, I sent in a script this year that I wrote for a bank. And while it didn't win, from the hundreds of entries, I made the list of finalists. Which puts me in some damn good company: there's folks from BBDO, WongDoody and DDB on there, among others.

For a freelancer working out of a shack in his backyard, this is a pretty big deal. But it's also further proof that I'm a loser. Depends on how you look at it, I guess.
