The Campaign Sunk, Too.
The CSS Neuse is a Conderate ironclad ship that was sunk by its own crew in Kinston, North Carolina, during the Civil War. The thing sat submerged and stuck in the mud for almost 100 years before what was left of it was hauled ashore (hence the "rise again") to rot even more before being preserved. By that time, it was a picked-over, raggedy mess.
You can go see what's left of it. And you should--it's very cool. I wanted to help draw some attention to it with a poster campaign. We came up with some ideas, but never could get anything to happen with the folks at the museum. Here's one of the ideas. Art director: Tomas Gardner.
By the way, some Kinston locals are working to construct a life-size replica of the CSS Neuse.
